Kozhikode: The two-week long private bus strike on Perambra-Payyoli-Vadakara route has ended after the intervention of district collector Seeram Sambasiva Rao.
As per the decisions taken at the meeting convened by the collector, the buses from three routes; Perambra, Koyi-landy, and Kottakkal will not enter Vadakara old bus stand.
Instead, these buses will take a deviation from the national highway to link road and terminate at the new bus stand.
The bus owners’ coordination committee had protested that not-entering the old bus stand will affect their collection.
However, the collector was firm at the meeting and explained that the market road in Vadakara was reeling under heavy traffic and hence the new traffic rule.
Earlier, the buses were asked to terminate at link road and to start from there only. However, upon the request of the bus owners, the collector urged to terminate the services at new bus stand for a month on an experimental basis.
Separate space will be marked at new bus stand for buses from Pera-mbra, Koyilandy and Kottakkal routes.
The new traffic regulation rule which came into existence in Vadakara town from January 1 triggered the strike.
The protest had been expanded to Perambra-Chaniyamkadavu-Vadakara route, thereby crippling passengers.
The traffic advisory committee had suggested the new regulation. Though Regional Transport Officer and Revenue Divisional Officer held talks with the protesters, it didn't lead to a breakthrough
