Bengaluru: Health dept official, two others held for fraud
Bengaluru: Three including, an assistant secretary to the health department, were arrested for cheating people of lakhs of rupees by promising government jobs.
The Vidhana Soudha police arrested assistant secretary Ramachandra (59), a resident of Kaval Byrasandra, lecturer Devaraj (40) and Lakshmi Narayan, a teacher at Tavarakere. The arrests were made based on a complaint filed by victims from Ramanagara district.
Accused Lakshmi Narayan had told his relative Shiv Kumar that there were many vacancies in the government and that the aspirants can get them by paying '6 lakh bribe.
Shiv Kumar told this to his friend Srikantaiah, who agreed to pay and get the job. A meeting was set up with Ramachandra at his office where Srikantaiah was told that six months after paying Rs 6 lakh, the appointment letter would be issued.
Excited about the job, Srikantaiah brought three more aspirants to Ramachandra who also paid him Rs 6 lakh each for the job. A total of Rs 24 lakh was paid to Ramachandra.
After six months, when the victims did not get a proper response, they approached Chief Minister H.D. Kumarswamy and narrated their ordeal. The CM then directed the Vidhana Soudha police to look into the issue. The police swung into action and arrested the accused.
The police are investigating if the accused were involved in any such similar cases in the past. The police said that Devaraj is a lecture at a government college near Kengeri.
