Kanchi mutt head discharged from hospital
Chennai: The senior pontiff of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamy admitted to a hospital late on Sunday evening due to breathing problems, was discharged and he resumed his normal activities, said sources.
The acharya was treated at a private hospital in Porur here for a brief while. He left for the Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam's Sankaralayam at Chetpet in the city and from Monday morning he granted darshan to devotees.
According to sources, the acharya collapsed at the math due to shortness of breath and was immediately rushed to the hospital in Porur where it was found that his blood sugar level had dipped. "After he felt difficulty in breathing, the acharya was rushed to the Sri Ramachandran Medical Centre (SRMC) at Porur. Doctors there provided him treatment and he became normal soon," sources said.
Throughout the night, his health condition was monitored by a team of doctors. Following his discharge, he went to the Sankara math at Chetpet. The 82-year-old senior pontiff succeeded as the 69th Shankaracharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam after Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Swamigal, hailed as Maha Periyava.
Meanwhile, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamy, accompanied by junior Acharya Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamy will take part in a Mupperum vizha which will be held under the aegis of the Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Chennaipuri Baktha Janasamaj at Rasika Ranjani Sabha, Mylapore on Tuesday at 2.30 pm. The event marks the fifth year anniversary of the Tamil patasala - an initiative by Sri Jayendra Swamy, Thiruvalluvar's Day and Thirumurai and Paavai fest.
