Muhammed Ajmal gets keys to new house in Kannur

The differently-abled boy, a class 10 student of Santhideepam special school, was living near to the Vengad school.

Kannur: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan handed over the keys of the new house to the family of Muhammed Ajmal at Oorppally, Kannur, on Sunday. Ajmal was the captain of the Indian team that won silver in the handball in the Special Olympic held in Los Angeles in 2015.

The house was constructed under the initiative of the National Service Scheme volunteers of E.K. Nayanar Memorial Government Higher Secondary School, Vengad.

The differently-abled boy, a class 10 student of Santhideepam special school, was living near to the Vengad school. He also has a differently-abled sister Abida and an elder brother Junaid.

After the death of their father, K.P. Abdu Rahiman, their mother Ayisha had been struggling to raise the three children, said NSS programme officer Shinith Patyam. “A special scheme ‘Sahapadikkoru Veedu’ was utilised to build the house,” said the officer.

The fund is usually set apart for the needy students of the same school. But it was spent for the boy after the association that promised a house for the family backed out after Ajmal won the prize.
