Pullani murder case: Faisal kin to protest cop apathy
Malappuram: The alleged apathy of police investigating the murder of Pullani Faisal, a neo-Muslim convert in Kodinhi, has drawn massive flak from the public cutting across the political spectrum.
It gained momentum after two of the senior officers who were leading the investigation have been deputed on other duties. The Tirurangadi MLA P.K. Abdu Rabb lashed out at district police chief Debesh Kumar Behera alleging that the dawdling was in tune with some vested interests.
“The district police chief is behaving irresponsibly. If the progress of the investigation goes like this I will lead the protests,” he said.
The all-party action council constituted by the Kodinhi residents has decided to conduct a march and siege on Chammad town on Thursday protesting the delay in arresting the remaining RSS suspects.
“Faisal’s mother and his three children would also be part of the march, besides many women and hundreds of others including me,” Mr Rabb said.
The action council has also decided to observe hartal in Kodinhi on the same day. The district leadership of the Congress has also swung into action.
DCC president V.V. Prakash will go on a one-day fast on Tuesday seeking justice to his family.
Former chief minister Oommen Chandy and Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala will also take part, Mr Prakash said. However, the police has denied all the allegations.
“The deputation of the some of the investigating officers is temporary and will never affect the probe,” a member of the team said.
The charge of the investigation has handed over to Suresh Kumar, district Crime Records Bureau DySP.
“The investing officer Pradeep Kumar, DySP of Malappuram, may return from his temporary Sabarimala duty on Tuesday and the charge will be handed over to him accordingly,” Mr Kumar said.
The police had arrested 11 RSS workers in connection with the case and three more accused including a top functionary of RSS are to be held.
