In a first, Telangana Governer writes to officials

Sources said the Governor wants to keep in direct touch with top officials including collectors.

Hyderabad: Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan has started a new practice of writing to district collectors directly. Dr Soundararajan visited Peddapalli district on December 11 and participated in several programmes. After returning to Hyderabad on Friday, she wrote to Peddapalli collector Devasena to appreciate the arrangements made for her visit.

No Governor has written to officials like this, said an official.

In her letter, the Governor told the collector: “I would like to place on record my appreciation for taking up ‘Shakthi,’ the training programme for girl students of government schools for Class 6 to Class 10 in self defence and martial arts which will go a long way to bring out a sense of confidence and self-esteem amongst them (sic).”

She said that her visit to a cloth bag unit and a sanitary napkins unit being run by self-help groups and to package 6 of the Kaleshwaram project at Nandi Medaram had enriched her experience.

Sources said the Governor wants to keep in direct touch with top officials including collectors. This will help her get information directly without depending on others.

During the RTC strike, Dr Soundararajan had invited transport minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar to brief her on the government’s transport arrangements for the public in the absence of RTC buses.

She also held review meetings with education, tribal and medical and health department officials.

Then Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan had never written to the collectors after visiting the districts, Raj Bhavan sources said. At the end of his tour, while returning to Hyderabad, Mr Narasimhan used to thank the district administration.
