Hyderabad: Farmers not ready to give land for schemes

Though it has conducted grama sabhas at these locations, where about 2,000 acres are proposed to be pooled, no one has given consent yet.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropoliran Development Authority has not been able to convince farmers to pool their land for its development schemes in three villages on the city outskirts. Though it has conducted grama sabhas at these locations, where about 2,000 acres are proposed to be pooled, no one has given consent yet.

The HMDA had announced pooling of 1,575 acres of land at Pratapsingaram and Korremula of Medchal-Malkajgiri and 456 acres in Mokila in Ranga Reddy district.

Under the deal, HMDA develops the land by creating civic infrastructure, and returns a share to the land-owners which they can sell. The HMDA retains a portion of land to auction to buyers.

According to highly placed sources in the HMDA, the proposal not only did not attract farmers but also attracted the displeasure of ruling party leaders at the grama sabhas.

They raised concerns over the loss of money from the Rythu Bandhu scheme during the period the HMDA takes to develop the land.

This apart, the farmers also rejected the land share that had been worked out by the HMDA. A senior HMDA official said that refusal of the farmers had been taken to the notice of higher authorities.

The official said the government has asked to negotiate the land share. “Even though everything was explained to the farmers none was ready to give the consent,” he added.
