Thiruvananthapuram: Special team to curb online child abuse
Thiruvananthapuram: A special team has been constituted in the state police to curb online sexual abuse of children and initiate stringent legal action.
Thiruvananthapuram-range IG and Cyber dome nodal officer Manoj Abraham will head the team named Kerala Police Counter Child Sexual Exploitation. IG Crimes S. Sreejith, who is also child protection nodal officer of the state police, will also supervise the team.
According to a statement from the police headquarters, the 13-member team will be entrusted with the task of setting up an online facility to report instance of online child abuse. It will conduct cyber patrolling to track child sex activities on the cyber space and curb them. The team will also initiate stringent legal action against the offenders. Creating awareness about online child sex among parents, teachers and children will also be a key responsibility of the team.
Other members of the team are Malappuram district police chief Pratheesh Kumar, Railway Police superintendent Merin Joseph, special branch DySP Mohammed Shafi and Police Training College vice-principal A.V. Sunil Kumar.
