Gunturpolice awareness camps for girls praised
VIJAYAWADA: AP Women Commission chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari on Friday asserted on the need of awareness among girls and women of their rights and for their protection.
Praising the Guntur Rural police, Ms Rajakumari, along with minister for social welfare Nakka Ananda Babu, flagged off the Melukolupu (Walk for Women) rally organised by the police department in Tenali. Hundreds of girls and women participated in the rally that began at the Market Yard and culminated at the Tenali Ramakrishna Kala Kshetram.
Mr Ananda Babu asked women and girls to bring their problems without fear to the Sabala police team. He appreciated the police department for conducting awareness programmes through Sabala teams and encouraging women and girls.
Ms Rajakumari asserted on the need of sustained fight by women for their Constitutional rights. She appreciated Guntur Rural SP S.V. Rajasekhara Babu for conducting such programmes, earlier in Chittoor district and now in Guntur.
Mr Rajasekhara Babu assured that all problems faced by girls in the district would be resolved through Sabala.
He said that hundreds of girls take the extreme step due to harassment by antisocial elements and this was the reason behind the police starting Sabala programme.
Mr Rajasekhara Babu said that street plays and mime shows will be staged at 60 places in Guntur rural district to create awareness among girls and women about their rights.
