New underpass to ease traffic flow to Gachibowli

The civic body has decided to take up this project under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP).

Hyderabad: To ease traffic congestion at Nanalnagar and Rethibowli junctions, the GHMC has decided to construct an underpass and two flyovers with an estimated cost of Rs170 crore. The civic body has decided to take up this project under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP). According to a GHMC official, a 470-metre underpass for commuters from Mehdipatnam to Gachibowli will be constructed. The unidimensional underpass will have a three-lane road which would save time for commuters at Nanalnagar T-junction.

The corporation has decided to construct a 700-metre flyover for commuters from Gachibowli to Golconda. The project is aimed at providing a signal-free travel to commuters. Besides, the civic body has also decided to construct a 900-metre flyover for commuters from Attapur Junction to Mehdipatnam which would ease the traffic at the Rethibowli junction. This would be a second-level flyover above the PVNR Express Highway.

A senior engineer in the GHMC said that the corporation has decided to construct two flyovers and an underpass to provide a permanent solution to the traffic congestion near Nanalnagar and Rethibowli junctions. He said an underpass and a flyover near the Nanalnagar junction will provide a signal-free travel to commuters from Mehdipatnam to Gachibowli and Gachibowli to Golconda.

About the second flyover from Attapur junction to Mehdipatnam, the official said that commuters from Rethibowli can avoid two signals and will be directed towards Mehdipatnam. The 900-metre flyover will run adjacent to the PVNR Express Highway and will be constructed above it to land in Mehdipatnam. He said that the project also requires a small chunk of defence land. He said that the GHMC has already written a letter to the defence ministry, seeking approval.

Meanwhile, the civic body will complete the SRDP phase I in five packages. Package I includes multi-level flyovers and grade separators at six junctions — KBR Park Entrance, Maharaja Agrasen Jn (Road No 12), Film Nagar, Road No 45 Junction, Jubilee Hills Check Post Junction and Cancer Hospital Junction (Road No 10 Junction).

The total cost of the Package I is around Rs 322.92 crore. Package II includes LB Nagar Junction, Bairamalguda Junction, Kamineni Hospital Junction on the Inner Ring Road and Chintalkunta Check Post Junction (Rs 331.38 crore). Package IV includes the construction of multi-level at Biodiversity Park Junction, Ayyappa Society Junction, Rajiv Gandhi Statue Junction and Mind Space (Rs 196.13 crore). Package V includes construction of grade separators or flyovers at Owaisi Hospital and Bahadurpura (Rs 86.21 crore).
