Telangana: New vehicle owners in police trouble
Hyderabad: Owners of new vehicles as also new drivers are facing problems during vehicle checks and special drives conducted by the traffic police as they are caught without valid documents for no fault of theirs. As per RTA norms, the driving licence or the registration certificate should reach the applicant in a week. Till then, the receipts given by the RTA will suffice during police checking.
But nearly 1.5 lakh applications for licences and registration certificates are pending with the RTA for a month. Mr D. Subramanyam, a pensioner from Palamuru University, said he had registered his new car with the Wanaparthy RTA in the first week of November and is still waiting for the registration certificate. “Recently, police stopped me at Mahbubnagar during a regular check and asked for the RC. I showed them the receipt but they refused to accept it as it was more than a month old,” Mr Subramanyam said.
Motorists from a few districts like Gadwal, Mahbubnagar, Wanaparthy, Nalgonda and Yadadri are facing similar problems during vehicle checking as the police is demand original documents from them.
