MK Stalin distributes relief materials, inaugurates camps for cyclone Vardha hit
Chennai: Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin on Wednesday distributed relief materials to people belonging to his constituency Kolathur and inaugurated medical camps to check the spread of diseases after cyclone Vardha hit Chennai and its neighbourhood.
The DMK treasurer, who inspected the constituency on Tuesday, returned to give away relief materials for the affected people. The function was held at a marriage
hall at GKM Colony at Ayanavaram.
Expressing dissatisfaction at the works by the state government to restore normalcy, he said normalcy had not returned in Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur districts. The government and corporation had not carried out sufficient works, he said and urged the government to intensify the works.
Restoration of electricity supply alone would bring back normalcy to the affected areas, he said. Stalin added that he had visited all the three districts after the storm had hit them and life had been paralysed. Pointing out that he is visiting Kolathur for the second consecutive day, he said the trees and light posts, which have fallen should be removed.
“Besides removing the light posts, they should be repaired and electricity should be restored to bring back normalcy”, he said. Citing his earlier appeal to DMK functionaries and activists to support the officials of government and corporation, who are involved in rehabilitation works, he said his party MLAs and functionaries had involved themselves in relief and rehabilitation works. He also asked his party cadre and MLAs to expedite the works. “There is a shortage of milk, drinking water and food and the government should take measures on a war footing to resolve the problems,” he added.
