Kerala: BJP camp to defend note ban
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A four-day camp of the BJP will focus on defending the Prime Minister’s decision to demonetise currency. It will be inaugurated by veteran BJP leader and Nemom MLA O. Rajagopal at Charal-kunnu on Thursday. Over 200 delegates within the state will attend the conclave in which national BJP leaders will take classes.
The state BJP leadership has followed the Kerala Congress (M) which conducted its conclave at Charalkunnu in Pathanamthitta district. Even though the state BJP has said that the conclave has got nothing to do with the run up towards the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, a section of leaders told this newspaper that the central leadership has demanded that the party win 12 seats out of 20 Lok Sabha seats from Kerala.
National BJP leaders who will take classes include BJP general secretary P. Muralidhar Rao, joint organising secretaries V. Satish and B.L. Santhosh and the general secretary in charge of the state, H. Raja. “Apart from the core committee leaders, the conclave will be attended by state office bearers, feeder organisations general secretaries, cell convener and its co-conveners, national council members, district and regional office bearers and special invitees,” a senior BJP leader told DC.
However, the major highlight would be to take defensive steps against the attack by UDF and LDF against the demonetisation. BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan will be floating a pro-poor agitation aiming for the welfare of tribals, SC/ST and homeless people. This agitation would see Mr Kummanam leading it along with tribal activist and NDA leader C.K. Janu. Earlier, district and Assembly constituency level conclaves were held where the top state BJP leaders took classes. The four day conclave would end on Sunday afternoon.
