Speed up Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme: Smita Sabharwal

Contractors say rains held up works.

Sircilla: With surge-pool works of package 10 under prestigious KLIS (Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme) on verge of completion, officials and contractors must now speed up execution and complete the remaining components of the project on a war footing, Smita Sabharwal, secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office, told the implementing authorities on Thursday.

The officer was inspecting progress of works under package 10 at Tippapur village in Ellanthakunta mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district. She was upset with officials for delaying construction of surge-pool and pump house within the prescribed time limit, as it would further delay lifting and supply of water from Mid-Manair Dam to Ananthagiri project.

In their defence, contractors explained to Sabharwal that heavy rains in recent times had delayed the construction works. They would make all efforts to complete the works as early possible. Later, the officer inspected the pump sets that would lift water and supply it to the Ananthagiri project.

District collector D. Krishna Bhaskar, engineer-in-chief Hari Ram and superintending engineer Anand were among those present along with contractors of the project.
