Bengaluru: Police commissioner’s office turns into play area
BENGALURU: City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao’s office turned into a children’s play area on Thursday on the occasion of Children’s Day.
Hundreds of children were gathered to take part in the ‘Children’s Fair’ organized by the city police department. They also got to see their favourite film star Yash besides enjoying music.
Don’t scare children about cops
Inaugurating the event, actor Yash said parents should ensure that their kids respect the police as they grow up.
“The parents should not scare their children or present a scary picture of cops as is the common practice if kids don’t listen to parents. Kids are often told that the police are going to come if they don’t listen. Instead, the kids should be told good things about the cops,” Yash said.
“Even my wife Radhika Pundit also tries to scare our daughter that the police are going to come and then I chide her whether our daughter is a thief that the police will come in search of her,” Yash said in a lighter vein.
Tip to cops
Yash said when he had gone abroad there was an accident and the locals were quite tensed about the police coming into the scene. When the cops arrived, they actually resolved the issue. Whereas, in India, he said people want to settle their dispute among themselves before the police intervenes. The police should correct itself on some of these issues, Yash said.
However, the actor appreciated the efforts of the police to resolve family and children’s problems through counselling.
Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao said children should stay away from drugs and bad habits. Police strive hard to ensure safety of women and children, he said. “Do not fear police. I will prevail upon my staff to be friendly with children. From now onwards, police are going to be friendlier to children,” he assured.
West Additional Commissioner Umesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner (Crime) Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner (Traffic) Dr B R Ravikanthe Gowda and DCP Isha Panth were present.
