Andhra Pradesh, Telangana state link is a bridge too far

If completed, the bridge would link several villages in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and improve commerce and people-to-people contact.

Kurnool: The unfinished Naguladinne bridge on the Tungabhadra river on the Adoni-Gadwal road in Kurnool district is a monument to government apathy and neglect. If completed, the bridge would link several villages in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and improve commerce and people-to-people contact. The unfinished bridge is being used by people who had to cross the river on the other side despite the fact that it poses problems.

This is the only route connecting Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state here. It had collapsed in the 2009 floods, and work to restore it is still not completed, said Madduleti of Nagaladinne village. “If the bridge was ready, we could reach Gadwal in Telangana very easily as it shortens the distance by 18 km,” he says.

When contacted, an official on condition of anonymity said that tenders were called twice since 2011 but progress was “not satisfactory”.
