Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Schools Parents Association has fired back against the voting awareness campaign led by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, which involves handing over a letter to schoolchildren which they have to give their parents to ask them to vote on December 7.
Several parents have reached out to HSPA with the letter sent by the GHMC which asks them to take a pledge to vote in the elections.
The campaign, though well intentioned, has raised the hackles of a lot of parents who were angry with the performance of the outgoing TRS government on the education front. They said they would elect parties based on their commitment to education.
The parents posed a set of questions and said if they did not get satisfactory answers from the government they would “answer the government” on polling day, December 7.
Ms Pavani, a parent, wanted to know if this was a subtle form of campaigning by the government for the ruling party. She asked if these officials could get a response to her questions from the government.
Mr Sadiq said, “The government cannot escape its responsibility by spending around 15 to 20 per cent of its education budget on just two per cent of students in residential schools and then claiming it to be an implementation of the KG-to-PG free education promise.”
