Chennai: Man stabs wife to death

According to the police on Wednesday morning, the girl's body was found hanging from the ceiling in her room.

Chennai: A 28-year-old murdered his wife and attempted suicide on Wednesday after she refused to return home from her parents’ house in the city.

Police said Karthik had gone to his in-laws’ house on Duraisamy Second Street at Saidapet on Wednesday morning. He had gone to patch up with his wife, Sowmya, 24, who left his home on Tuesday after a quarrel.

However, Sowmya refused to go with him and argued with him. As the argument intensified, Karthik took a kitchen knife and stabbed his wife in her stomach several times. He then he tried to commit suicide by slitting his throat.

Hearing cries from the house, neighbours reached there and the rescued the couple. They were sent to Government Royapettah Hospital. However, Sowmya was declared dead on arrival and Karthik was admitted to hospital. Police said the couple had two children. The Saidapet police registered a case and began inquiries.

Meanwhile, a 23 old year woman who was forced into marriage against her wishes committed suicide on Tuesday night in the city. The deceased identified as J. Poornima (23) a resident of West Tambaram worked as a staff nurse at a private hospital in Tambaram.

Jayachandran, the deceased father had planned to get her married to a man from Vellore, even after the girl refused to. But the action of her parents did not sit well with the deceased who decided to take the ultimate way out by killing herself.

According to the police on Wednesday morning, the girl’s body was found hanging from the ceiling in her room. She was recovered and rushed to a private hospital in Tambaram, where she was declared brought dead. Further probe is on.
