Bengaluru: The Banaswadi police shot at a notorious robber after he tried to attack them with a dagger to evade arrest in Kadugondanahalli police limits on Tuesday night. The accused, Dinesh Bora, 28, hailed from Nepal and is a resident of Horamavu.

Around 10.30 pm on Tuesday, Banaswadi Police Inspector Virupaksha Swamy R. and team received credible information that Dinesh was trying to commit a house theft in Kacharakanahalli. The police formed a special team and rushed to spot. As soon as Dinesh spotted the police team, he started running.

The police chased him till Kadugondanahalli, where they cornered him and asked him to surrender. But when they approached him, he stabbed Constable Murthy in the right hand. Inspector Virupaksha first shot a round in the air to warn him and when he tried to attack again, Virupaksha shot at his right leg to neutralise him. Both the injured were taken to a nearby hospital.

The police said that Dinesh was involved in over 10 robberies in the city. He was previously booked and arrested for committing thefts in Banaswadi, J.P. Nagar, Indiranagar, Hennur, Kumarswamy Layout and Basaveshwaranagar.
