1,483 plaints on Election Commission's c-Vigil are genuine

The EC has noticed that a complainant takes 10 minutes to upload a complaint, and a returning officer 100 minutes to treat it.

Hyderabad: A record number of 2,520 complaints have been lodged through c-Vigil, the Election Commission of India’s Android-based mobile application to report violations of the model code of conduct.

Of these, 1,483 were found to be genuine following verification made while the rest were dropped.

Peddapalli district accounted for the largest number of 173 genuine complaints, followed by Medchal-Malkajgiri (166) and Jagtial (162). Warangal (Rural) district reported one genuine complaint.

The EC has noticed that a complainant takes 10 minutes to upload a complaint, and a returning officer 100 minutes to treat it.

If the complaint is found to be genuine, the information is sent to the EC. If the complaint is found to be genuine, the EC sends its personnel to the site in 15 minutes. The team takes another 30 minutes to verify the complaint and submit a report. The Returning Officer, in turn, is taking another 50 minutes on an average

Chief Electoral Officer Dr Rajat Kumar said the app could help purge the election system of violations and wrong-doings.
