Namma Metro may soon have women only' bogies
Belagavi: The Namma Metro is considering reserving some bogies for women in the coming days.
Answering an unstarred question by JD(S) MLA K. Gopalaiah during the Belagavi legislature session on Monday, Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George said that the proposal will be considered only after increasing the number of bogies from the present three to six.
At the moment, there are only three bogies with 43 seats, where 250 people can travel.
In the future, the number of bogies will be increased to six when the proposal will be considered, he said.
To another unstarred question by Bharatiya Janata Party MLA L.A. Ravi Subrahmanya, Mr George said that the number of bogies will be increased after December.
The B and C gates at the Kempe Gowda station were under the control of KSRTC and were handed over to the BMRCL recently. It will take six months to call tenders and build roads for people to move around.
After the work is completed, the gates will be opened for public, he said.
Rain havoc
The government has hired STUP Consultants in Bengaluru to conduct a joint inspection along with BBMP officials of spots where recent rains played havoc in Bengaluru. STUP will recommend permanent solutions to the government in areas where people lost their lives and property.
Replying to an unstarred question by Mr Gopaliaha, Mr George said that the government is developing storm water drains at Rs 1,100 crore in two phases under the Nagarotthana scheme.
To a question by Mr Y.A. Narayanaswamy, Mr George denied that the government has received any report from the IISc, stating that the city is flooding because of concretising of storm water drains.
He also said that no concrete was used for major storm water drains or canals.
