N Chandrababu Naidu takes stock of Polavaram works
Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday warned contractors and Polavaram Project officials not to be negligent. He said though the government was giving its full-fledged support to the project, but the pace of construction work was not satisfactory. Mr Naidu interacted with irrigation department officials and conducted a virtual inspection of the project from his camp office. He expressed his dismay at the construction companies and officials, saying that they were not being responsible in achieving the targets.
Mr Naidu said they were supposed to complete 1.5 lakh cubic metres of spillway works per day out of which only 85,227 cubic meter work was being done. He said that the government was ready to solve any problems of human resources or machinery and infrastructure required for the construction. The CM said he wouldn’t spare anyone failing to achieving the targets and completing the project on time. He said that it was vital to accelerate the project.
Making it clear that from now on the average earthwork for spillway and spill channel should be 2 lakh cubic meters per day, the CM said that by December 10, concrete work should begin once designs are cleared and asked officials and contractors to be ready. The contractors informed the CM that the road passing through the forest area laid for transporting earth to the dumping yard was being widened and asked the West Godavari collector to sort out issues relating to the dumping yard. He said that no legal hindrances should surface.
On the occasion, Mr Naidu reiterated his commitment to extend all support for the relief and rehabilitation for those living in the Polavaram area. From November 7 to November 13, a total of 7,41,725 cubic meters of earthwork was completed.
