Hyderabad: Art better than advertisement on Metro
Hyderabad: Taking their cue from the ongoing Street Art Festival, citizens of Hyderabad must surely want the authorities to paint the Metro Rail pillars on Necklace Road in the manner of the vibrant art works seen in public spaces during this festival and spare us the eyesore of political and private advertisements.
The 12 local artists taking part in the festival have been given space from the footpath opposite People's Plaza wall up to the Eat Street wall. The paintings are drawing viewers from across the city.
A visitor to Necklace Road, Shubrath Gautham, said: “Great effort by the artists and organisers to make our streets look so vibrant. We request the state agencies to ensure that streets are not spoilt by people.”
Anitha Subramaniam added that “the government should replicate the same at Metro stations and pillars, rather than allowing the space to be used for advertisements.”
Many took to social media to share the artworks. The B. S. Maktha area saw an increase in footfall on Sunday.
The festival ends on November 24, when the state tourism department and the St-art Hyderabad Foundation will compliment artists on their work. 'I love Hyderabad', a typographical work with a series of sentences beginning with 'I Love Hyderabad' will be launched at the People's Plaza.
'Artvertising' was to transform 10 areas in the city by sketches of artist Daku and others. The organisers are in talks with the GHMC to select the site. As of now, one location at Khairatabad Flyover has been selected for this project.
The artworks at People’s Plaza the one by Artist Saiyam Bharath highlights the city of the Nizams being transitioned into an IT hub. But the issues of farmers fail to get attention, the artist says and has painted on the wall opposite People's Plaza.
Artist Nilesh from Pune has artfully depicted ‘Asal Hyderabad’, from the famous Irani chai to Osmania biscuits and the Charminar. This is next to the Necklace Road Railway Station. Artists Swathi and Vijay's artwork talks about FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) that is near Necklace Road Station.
