HYDERABAD: “Though a father is angry at times, he does not harm his children. We hope that is how Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will be with us,” remarked women conductors of TSRTC at one of the condolence meetings organised at respective depots throughout the state on Monday for ‘Martyr’ Srinivas Reddy.

The conductors contend that they are fighting for the greater good. “KCR should realise that we are also the people of Telangana who fought day and night for the statehood,” they remarked. Though several of them are going through an emotional roller coaster, many of them have so far stood strong and are continuing to support the strike. Several drivers belonging to cantonment, picket, and Hyderabad depots attended the condolence meeting held at the Jubilee Bus Stand for the RTC driver who succumbed to his burns. One of the drivers asked, “If we lose our jobs in this middle and old age, who is going to recruit us?” Another driver, who also preferred anonymity, said, “We have loans to repay. Our house owners too will throw us on the road if we fail to pay the rent.”

Employees maintain that their fight is for providing better services and seeking proper working conditions. No new recruitment of employees has taken place and the same old buses are being operated, though they need to be replaced at least for the welfare of public.
