RTC JAC asks Guv Tamilisai Soundararajan to resolve workers’ stir

The CM had promised to look into the issues being faced by RTC employees during his election campaign at Nizamabad.

HYDERABAD: Leaders of the TSRTC Joint Action Committee on Monday called on Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan at Raj Bhavan seeking her intervention in resolving of their 10-day-old strike. They also explained to her their reasons for going on the strike.

Speaking to media near Raj Bhavan after meeting the Governor, JAC convener Ashvatthama Reddy said that they have presented a memorandum to the Governor with regard to the strike as also attacks carried out by police against the RTC employees.

"We have submitted videos and newspaper clippings as evidence of the attacks. The Governor informed us that she would take up the matter with Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao," Ashvatthama Reddy maintained.

He alleged that employees were committing suicides because of the government’s attitude. The CM had promised to look into the issues being faced by RTC employees during his election campaign at Nizamabad, but he has not kept his word. He pointed out that ministers E. Dayakar Rao, T. Srinivas Yadav and P. Ajay Kumar had never participated in the Telangana movement but were now criticising the agitating RTC employees. “The comments of these ministers on RTC strike are provocative, which is forcing employees to take extreme steps,” the JAC convenor remarked.

He denied that political parties had encouraged them to go on strike.

It is the anti-democratic actions of the state government that have made opposition parties support the striking RTC employees, he contended.
