Bengaluru: Plaint against hospital for administering expired polio drops
Bengaluru: An FIR has been registered against a doctor and a senior nurse of CMH Hospital Indiranagar after an IAS officer lodged a complaint against the duo for administering polio vaccine past its expiry date to her newborn baby.
The IAS officer, Pallavi Akurathi, approached the Indiranagar police station and filed a complaint against Dr S. Suresh and senior nurse Krishnamma. She accused the duo of criminal negligence while administering oral polio vaccine to her 10-week-old baby girl.
In her complaint, Akurathi stated that she went to CMH Hospital to get her baby vaccinated on October 3. But, the doctor and the nurse, the IAS officer claimed, administered expired and banned oral polio vaccine to her daughter following which she fell ill.
The IAS also told the police that Dr Suresh after doing the physical check-up of the baby wrote the prescription wherein four vaccines Rotateq, Prevenar, Easy Six and OPV were mentioned. Akurathi purchased three vaccines as OPV was to be administered by the hospital itself. As she reached the doctor’s cabin along with the vaccines, Dr Suresh had left.
“When I asked the Krishnamma, she replied saying she would be administering the vaccines. She took the three vaccines and administered to the baby and in the end she brought some pink colour bottle and administered 2-3 drops in baby’s mouth,” she said while claiming that the vaccine not just past its expiry date, but was of a blacklisted brand. The police have begun investigation.
