The Prime Minister also appreciated Bihar CM Nitish Kumar for showing his commitment to the development of the state.

Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday shared the stage with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the first time after JD(U) snapped ties with the grand secular alliance and formed a government with the BJP.

The occasion was the centenary year celebrations of Patna University and laying of foundation stone for various developmental projects and schemes under ‘Namami Gange’ programme.

The Prime Minister also appreciated Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for showing his commitment to the development of the state.

“We will work together to ensure that Bihar is counted among other developed states by 2022 when the country celebrates 75 years of Independence,” Mr Modi said while addressing the centenary year celebrations of Patna University.

At Mokama, while laying stones for various projects the Prime Minister stressed on the need to develop Inland waterways.

Meanwhile, lamenting that no Indian university figures among the top 500 globally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the government intends to unshackle these institutions and provide Rs 10,000 crore to 20 varsities to ensure that they are counted among the best in the world.

The Prime Minister said measures like grant of central status were “a thing of the past” and his government has taken “a step forward” towards making 10 private universities and 10 government ones world class.
