Deepavali: Rs 4.11 crore bus tickets sold

A total of 1,21,179 reservations on special buses have been made throughout the state.

Chennai: In a move to reduce traffic snarls and facilitate the public reach the temporary bus terminals for interstate travel, the state transport department will operate 243 special link buses from different places of the city to the terminuses for three days starting on Sunday.

A total of 1,21,179 reservations on special buses have been made throughout the state (of which 70,296 are from Chennai) from October 13-17, thereby raking in Rs 4.11 crore for transport department.

Earlier this month, the department announced that moffusil buses scheduled to leave from October 15-17 from Koyambedu have been diverted to Anna Nagar West, Tambaram new bus terminus (MEPZ), Poonamallee, CMBT and Saidapet Court terminus.

“Though MTC is already operating buses to these terminuses, due to the festive season, the department will run adequate special link buses to the terminals for a smooth travel,” the official press release said.
