Acharya Nagarjuna University to expand FM radio ambit to target capital

ANU is planning to expand the base of its FM radio activity.

VIJAYAWADA: The Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) is planning to expand the base of its FM radio activity, to penetrate its ongoing research activities in various disciplines including bio-chemistry, engineering, sociology and law. As of now, its ambit is confined to only 5 to 6 kilometres radius but now they want to expand the frequency zone to a minimum of 30 kilometres. Giving details about the ongoing activities in the ANU, the Vice-Chancellor Professor A. Rajendra Prasad said that Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are the biggest upcoming trends in the current education scenario.

It has offered an opportunity to all individuals irrespective of his economic background and physical location to pursue education. MOOCs are a boon for people who have faced obstacles in pursuing education due to lack of funds, no proper opportunities and inaccessible geographical location, the VC said. Resource persons, mostly senior faculty members of Acharya Nagarjuna University have been identified to develop MOOCs to match the contemporary requirements of global employability. A full-fledged studio and also state-of-the-art audio equipment is established in ANU to record video content with audio support, VC Prof. Rajendra Prasad said.

Giving details about the International Students Cell (ISC) of the ANU, the VC said that ISC has taken initiatives for signing up of MOU with foreign universities and institutions like-INDICASAT, Panama, EASTC, Tanzania, Aksum University — CNCS, Ethiopia, Mzumbe University, Tanzania, College of Humanities and Sciences of North East Normal University, China, Jilin Jianzhu University (Architecture University) China, and Jilin Agricultural Unive-rsity Changchun, P.R. of China, for academic collaboration and exchange of faculty and students.

The VC also said that in collaboration with its technology partner M/s Schoolguru Eduserve Private Limited, Acharya Nagarjuna University has introduced a certificate course in GST (Goods and Services Tax) with Dr Monish H. Bhalla, one of the top tax consultants of India as the chief resource person, to equip all students of commerce and taxation with the necessary knowledge about GST, GST applications, taxation methodology, registration, filing of returns and such.
It is a unique initiative of Acharya Nagarjuna University to upgrade the knowledge of the current tax practitioners too. With this certificate course every commerce graduate and post graduate will turn to be ‘industry ready’, according to the VC Prof. A. Rajendra Prasad.
