Survey finds 2,400 nala encroachers

Officials have completed survey along 61 km of length out of 390 km of storm water drains and 32 nalas out of 173.

Hyderabad: Nearly 2,400 properties were identified along nalas and storm water drains in the city during a survey conducted by officials at the circle level. Officials have completed survey along 61 km of length out of 390 km of storm water drains and 32 nalas out of 173. They have found about 20 per cent of the constructions and encroachments occupying land of nalas and its buffer zones have given building construction approvals from the GHMC.

Officials took up the survey on October 1. The GHMC has told the government that a comprehensive picture would come by October 15. As officials are holding the survey inch-by-inch along the nalas, the process would take one more month. Chief City Planner (CCP) S. Devender Reddy said that 35 teams were working on the matter across the GHMC. “Basing on the irrigation records of 1970, Google maps and revenue records, our teams are holding surveys. Presently, we are marking the encroachments and property basing on the records,” he said.

Official sources said that owners of the identified properties are being issued notices. The process has already been started. “We are identifying property owners in BPL and APL categories. The government will provide 2BHK flats to the BPL owners. Owners under APL category with genuine documents will get compensation as per the law. Properties not having proper documents will be demolished,” the official said.

Serilingampally Circle-11 Deputy Commissioner V. Manohar said that 90 per cent of survey in his jurisdiction was completed. “We have seven nalas and we shall complete the process by the end of this week. Wherever we identify requirement of more manpower, we are increasing teams,” he said.
