Bengaluru: Mayor G.Padmavathi conducted her maiden inspection at the K.R. Market on Friday and issued show cause notice to an assistant engineer (AEE) and directed SWM Joint Commissioner Sarfaraz Khan to deduct 15 days’ salary of 50 BBMP workers.

Following numerous complaints regarding lack of cleanliness at the market, Padmavathi inspected the market premises and was enraged by the situation.
On her arrival, she found heaps of flowers, vegetables and fruits rotting at the market. Not only customers, even the shopkeepers rued that the stench was unbearable and was keeping away customers.

Addressing the complaints, Padmavathi directed Khan to issue show-cause notice to AE Basavaraj and deduct 15 days’ salary of 50 Group D workers, who failed to control roadside vendors in the market vicinity. Later, Khan charged the officials for not maintaining cleanliness on the market premises, despite K.R Market being a commercial hub. The BBMP officials responded that eight auto-tippers would be assigned and the garbage would be cleared on Saturday.

Cleanliness drive: Following the footsteps of former mayor Katte Satya, Mayor Padmvathi said a weekly cleaning drive would be held at K.R Market every Saturday. This week too around 200 pourkarmikas would take part in a cleanliness drive on Saturday.
