Hyderabad: No construction near junctions

The state govt has decided to ban construction of shopping complexes, malls, cinema theatres, hospitals and schools near junctions.

Hyderabad: To prevent traffic snarls that develop at major traffic junctions, the state government has decided to ban construction of shopping complexes, malls, cinema theatres, hospitals and schools near junctions in the GHMC, all municipal corporations, municipalities and district headquarters. A senior official of the municipal administration and urban development department said, “The ban will be imposed on 250 junctions in GHMC limits alone. A majority of these junctions are already posing severe traffic problems due to the presence of big commercial establishments. The ban will be extended to other municipal corporations and new district headquarters, which are now witnessing a rush to construct shopping complexes near junctions.”

He said the file pertaining to the ban was approved by MAUD minister K.T. Rama Rao recently and has been referred to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for approval. With the CM himself pitching for planned development in all cities and towns, officials expect the orders to be issued very shortly. Restrictions will be imposed on construction of other buildings near junctions too. Any private builder constructing a building at such locations has to leave a 3.5-metre space from the junction, which will be utilised to widen the junction.

Builders will also be required to utilise the space falling under the set-back area for parking and other activities. No hoardings will be permitted within 100 metres of a junction. No parking zones will be created within 300 metres radius.
