Governor Gives Assent to RTC Merger

HYDERABAD: Putting an end to months of long-standing discussions on the TSRTC’s future, Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on Thursday gave her assent to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (Absorption of Employees into Government Service) Bill-2023, after it was passed by the Telangana Assembly on August 6.

The Governor’s assent led to widespread celebration among the families of 43,373 TSRTC employees, who will now be inducted into government service. The Governor, in a communique, said that having thoroughly assessed the government’s actions in response to her 10 recommendations — which were made in consideration of employee representations and the overall welfare of the corporation — is satisfied that these recommendations have been diligently addressed.

“The Honorable Governor extends her heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all TSRTC employees as they embark on their new roles as government employees,” the Raj Bhavan said. The absorption ofTSRTC into the government has been a longstanding demand, with it even spilling into politics. Pressing for the demand, RTC employees had previously threatened to nominate a candidate to go up against the ruling party during the Munugode by-election. Maramreddy Thomas Reddy, general secretary ofRTC Telangana Mazdoor Union, said, “This day stands as a memorable day in the lives ofall the employees. This is a brave move by the ChiefMinister, to whom we extend our gratitude. Employees of RTC took part in the statehood agitation and have contributed to the progress ofthe state.”
