Telangana high court relief for safai karmacharis

The bank officials suspended the petitioners on the ground of misconduct in submitting false certificates and ordered their dismissal.

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court came to the rescue of safai karmacharis who had submitted fake certificates that lowered their educational qualifications and directed the authorities to impose lighter punishment than dismissal against them.

Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili was dealing with a batch of petitions filed by daily-wage sanitation staff of the Central Bank of India who had been sacked on the grounds that they had submitted fake bonafide and educational certificates at the time of the recruitment from 2002.

In 2012, the bank called for regular appointments and set the eligibility at Class 8. Many of them submitted certificates showing that they had studied only till Class 8.

But as their age proof, they had submitted Class 10 certificates.

The bank officials suspended the petitioners on the ground of misconduct in submitting false certificates and ordered their dismissal.

The petitioners requested the inquiry officers of the bank to take a lenient view. Whent the bank refused, they approached the High Court.
