Poison rumours: 30K litre water tank emptied at Keeranatham

On instruction from higher officials, around 30,000 liters of drinking water was pumped out, leaving residents without sufficient drinking water.

COIMBATORE: Tension prevailed at Keeranatham in the city's suburbs following rumours of poison in a drinking water pumping station.

According to a source from the slum clearance board, as many as 1,280 houses were constructed by the board at Keeranatham near Ganapathy here, of which 1,130 houses were allotted to the beneficiaries and are under use.

Around 5,000 people are residing there.

Four underground tanks were constructed for stocking drinking water for the residents of cluster houses belonging to the slum clearance board.

On Saturday, a pumping station staff, Sonai, had gone into the station to switch on the motor, when he noticed an open bottle kept near the tank containing half a bottle of white coloured solution.

Sonai suspected it to be poison had rang up the department staff.
