Kochi: ‘The end’ to Coastal authority

The previous authority with 14 members included Dr Veena Madhavan as member secretary of KCZMA.

Kochi: The Kerala Coastal Zone Management Authority (KCZMA), that provided the trigger to demolish flats in Maradu municipality by approaching the Supreme Court over violation of Coastal Regulation Zone norms, is virtually a non-existent entity for the time being as the three-year term of its members ended in June. The last meeting of the KCZMA held on June 7, 2019 chaired by Usha Titus, principal secretary department of environment, has prepared a list of 65 incidents of CRZ violations by various private entities. Further action on these violations, however, have remained in limbo due to delay in the approval of the list by the MOFE&CC.

The previous authority with 14 members included Dr Veena Madhavan as member secretary of KCZMA. Apart from three other officers from KCZMA, other members included one each from revenue, industries, Fisheries & Ports and local self government departments, two town planners and two members from Kerala State Science and Technology Council. The KCZMA, meanwhile, has removed the contents under the icon Identification of Violations of CRZ Notification on its website. Earlier, details of CRZ violations in the state were, were available on the website.
