Vintage rally part of Dasara festival

Mr Devegowda said the Dasara programmes would be finalised by September 26.

Mysuru: Besides the Jumbo Savari that will bring down the curtains on the 10- day Dasara festivities, Mysuru will this year see another procession of Dasara elephants accompanied by folk artistes, who will not get an opportunity to perform at the actual event. "This procession will be held on a Sunday and will not be a rehearsal of the Jumbo Savari," Minister, G T Devegowda, who is Dasara executive committee chairman, told reporters here on Friday. A 3D projection depicting the history and heritage of Mysuru will be held before the Lalit Mahal palace and the Town Hall and the city will also see a vintage car rally during the festival, according to Tourism Minister, Sa Ra Mahesh .

Mr Devegowda said the Dasara programmes would be finalised by September 26, and a tentative funding of Rs 25 crore had been proposed for the festival, which would be held on traditional lines like always. The Minister launched a Dasara website and released Dasara posters. Deputy Commissioner, Abhiram G Shankar revealed that the committee was in touch with the Defence ministry to hold the Dasara air-show and fireworks during the torchlight parade at Bannimanatap grounds would be on the lines of those held during the Commonwealth Games, using pyrotechniques with synchronised customised firing of crackers to music. It has also been decided to hold food melas at two places this year to avoid a rush.

Meanwhile, Minister Puttarangshetty, who is also Chamarajanagar MLA, walked out of the Dasara executive committee meeting, upset over not being made vice president. "The Dasara posters carry the photographs of only the district, tourism, and Kannada and culture ministers and Congress MLAs are being ignored," he told reporters. But Mr Devegowda later clarified that all three ministers from Mysuru and Chamarajnagar would be made vice presidents of the committee.
