Telangana: Anganwadi workers to be teachers soon

The state government recently held training programmes for Anganwadi teachers in Telugu.

Adilabad: The state government is training Anganwadi teachers in different subjects so that they can teach students from Classes I to IV in government primary schools in place of SGT (Secondary grade teachers) in the coming days.

The move is aimed at reducing the number of teachers in primary schools and winding up schools where the student strength was not adequate. The number of posts of SGT would be reduced after the Angnwadis take over primary schools in villages.

The state government recently held training programmes for Anganwadi teachers in Telugu, Mathematics and English subjects in government schools.

In the recent years, state government has recruited teachers for Anganwadis having intermediate or SSC qualifications whose services could be utilised for teaching students of primary sections in government schools unlike in the past.
Most of the teachers working in government primary schools will be shifted to the high schools.

Some of the senior schools assistants teaching in high schools will be promoted as junior college lecturers. This will be done as part of implementation of KG to PG education promised by the state government.

The state government has shifted Anganwadis to premises of government schools from the rented houses to reduce expenses. A government teacher, K. Ramana Reddy, from old Adilabad district said the state government is making moves to wind up primary schools or replace the SGT teachers with the Anganwadis in the villages. The state government has changed the name of Anganwadi workers to Anganwadi teachers and their salary was hiked recently.
