New system to spot bus breakdowns: H M Revanna
Bengaluru: After the BMTC faced a major embarrassment on Wednesday when Chief Minister Siddaramaiah encountered two Volvo bus breakdowns during his city inspection, Transport Minister H.M. Revanna has now assured that the BMTC will soon have a new system to immediately spot bus breakdowns.
He told reporters here on Thursday, "Firstly buses should not be breaking down or stopping. For this, 3,000 new buses will replace old ones. We are introducing a new system where the control room in the head office, will track movement of BMTC buses. In case of a breakdown, they will quickly send another bus as replacement."
He clarified that the Volvo bus which Siddaramaiah boarded first was old and the air-conditioner was not effective. The second Volvo however was new and the BMTC officials are trying to figure out what went wrong, the Minister added.
"Give us time and we will find out the problem and rectify it," he said in conclusion.
The BMTC is constructing new terminals at BTM Layout (Rs 67.12 crore), Kalasipalya (Rs 60 crore), Kengeri Upanagara (Rs 8.68 crore), Hoskote (Rs 20 crore) and MES Palya Singapura Layout (Rs 2 crore).
