Supreme Court to hear PIL to curb violence in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu

Senior advocate Adish C. Agarwal made a mention' before a Bench of Chief Justice T.S. Thakur and Justice A.M. Kanwilkar for urgent listing.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will on Thursday hear a public interest writ petition filed by a social activist for court’s intervention to control large-scale violence in Karnataka and few incidents in TN following an order passed by the apex court on September 5 which was modified on September 12.

Senior advocate Adish C. Agarwal made a ‘mention’ before a Bench of Chief Justice T.S. Thakur and Justice A.M. Kanwilkar for urgent listing and the CJI directed it to be heard on Thursday by a bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra.

The petitioner, P. Sivakumar, said the failure of Karnataka and TN to control fringe elements from destroying public property has resulted in deprivation of right to life and movement as guaranteed under Articles 19 and 21. He said Karnataka government was duty-bound to implement the orders of the apex court, but certain fringe elements had prevented implementation and indulged in arson resulting in loss of properties worth hundreds of cores.
