Municipal e-office' to ensure transparency

Urban local bodies will get computers with Net access.

Rajahmundry: The state government is going to launch ‘e-office’ in municipal administration from September 27 in the state in a bid to avoid laborious process of movement of files from junior officers to senior officers manually and ensure transparency in governance. As the municipal administration has several wings, including town planning, revenue, public health and engineering, to ensure better services to the citizens ranging from supply of drinking water, maintenance of sanitation, collection of taxes, giving approval for plans for construction of buildings, construction of roads and drains, health care, garbage disposal, treatment of effluents, street lighting and others, civic authorities have to put up note files for taking up various works and for providing several services.

Junior assistants put up note files and they have to move upwards to the senior officers until the works and services get the approval of the municipal commissioners. To avoid the cumbersome process of movement of these files, the state government intends to launch ‘e-office’ in municipal administration. Accordingly, all the urban local bodies will given computers with internet access. Officials who transfer the note files from the lower level are being trained by the master trainers. Each officer will be given an e-mail ID and digital key and he or she has to post the note files through that e-mail ID to the next senior officer. The next senior officer will check the note files and if he or she is satisfied with it, he or she will add comments and forward it to the next senior officer and in case any changes are to be made, such note files will be sent back to the source from where it first originated with a recommendation to make certain changes. This system will avoid delay in movement of files.
