Hyderabad: At Metro Rail spots, civic body lets roads go to dogs

The Chaderghat-Malakpet stretch was worst affected.

HYDERABAD: Metro Rail work has exacerbated the waterlogging problem on city roads. Waterlogging led to traffic jams at Alugaddabavi, Oliphanta bridge-Chilkalguda rotary, KIMS Hospital. Minister’s Road, Rethibowli, Nanal Nagar and Old PS Saifabad. The Chaderghat-Malakpet stretch was worst affected.

“We have been living with traffic jams on Chaderghat-Malakpet route for two years. It has only worsened with Metro Rail works. All vehicles are using a single lane, causing further slowdowns and delays,” said Rohit K, who is employed at a private firm.

The situation was not different at Oliphanta bridge. “Earlier, water used to stagnate under the bridge. Now, the approach road from Chilkalguda gets waterlogged. The road is uneven and full of potholes,” said Ms Swathi Priya, a daily commuter.

Motorists asked the police to notify stretches where there was no waterlogging, when traffic cops posted the list of waterlogged roads spots on its Facebook page to alert commuters.

“It will be really helpful if traffic cops name the road stretches that are free of vehicular congestion and water-logging issues. How can the traffic police alone ensure free flow of traffic without the help of roads department (GHMC),” asked motorist Asif Khadeer.
