Visakhapatnam: The Vizag Runners Society unveiled the second edition of the Vizag Marathon. The event took place on Monday, with GVMC commissioner C.M. Sai Kanth Varma gracing the occasion as the chief guest. The founding members and core committee of the Vizag Runners Society Dr. P. Madhuri, Dr. A. Gayatri, and Dr. Leela Prasad announced that the 2nd edition of the Vizag Marathon is scheduled for December 17.
This edition offers four distinct categories for participants: a 21.125 km run, a 10 km run, a 5 km run, and a 3 km run. Those eager to participate can secure their spot by registering at http://www.vizagmarathon.run.
All registered entrants will receive an official race T-shirt, and there's an enticing prize pool of Rs. 5 lakh, along with medals for marathon finishers. Vizag Runners Society was formed in 2014 by a group of experienced and enthusiastic runners from Vizag. The society's secretary Srinivas Kancheti highlighted its role saying that it was a social enterprise and non-profit organisation, officially registered in 2021.
"Our aim is to raise awareness about health and fitness within the community, encouraging individuals to embrace running or walking as integral parts of their lives," he said.
Last year, the Vizag Runners Society celebrated the success of its inaugural marathon. Organisers assured all participants a remarkable experience, as they traverse the breathtaking landscapes of Vizag during the run.
