Rains lash Vizag, mercury drops

Visakhapatnam: Rain lashed many parts of Visakhapatnam and its surroundings on Monday morning, giving relief to people from the hot and humid weather conditions prevailing for the past few days. The showers brought down the temperature.
Low-lying areas in the Old Town, RK Beach Road, Poorna Market, Gnanapuram, MVP Colony and Madhuravada were inundated. Hawkers were off the main roads for more than two hours. Preparations for the Independence Day celebrations were also affected.
The city received 20mm of rain. The temperature dropped to 33 degrees C, which was at around 38 degrees for the last two days.
IMD Amaravati director Stella S told Deccan Chronicle that the cyclonic circulation over north-west Bay of Bengal caused thunderstorms and lightning in isolated places over north coastal regions and other parts of AP.
“The hot, humid, uncomfortable weather would prevail over the north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam for more days. The maximum temperatures would be 3-4 degrees above normal,” she said.
