VHR tells KCR, Jagan: Back tribals living in Nallamala forests

Hyderabad: Former MP and AICC secretary V. Hanumantha Rao has requested the Centre to stop exploration of uranium in the Nallamala forests as there is a huge public outcry against the mining proposal.
In letters to the Centre and Chief Ministers K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Mr Rao said. “We have to support the tribals living in this area and save the environment, otherwise there will be a mass movement against the uranium exploration,” he wrote
He said the TS government has approved the survey and exploration of uranium over 83 square kilometres in the Nallamala forest area of the Krishna basin.
He said that the area was rich in biodiversity and home to species having the highest protection under India’s wildlife laws.
