Two RPF officials awarded Police Medals

Mr Prabhu is on deputation to the anti-corruption branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Hyderabad: Railway Protection Force inspectors B. Satish Prabhu and N. Ashwini Kumar were selected for the Police Medals on Wednesday, ahead of Thursday's Independence Day celebrations.

Mr Prabhu is on deputation to the anti-corruption branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation. He has been awarded the Indian Police Medal in 2012. Mr Prabhu played an important role in detection of the Gautami Express sabotage case in 1995.

In that incident, 32 passengers were charred to death, most of them in their sleep, and eight injured when a coach of the Secunderabad-Kakinada Gautami Express caught fire on the night of August 1 in Warangal district. The fire was later attributed to a short circuit.

Mr Ashwini Kumar has been deputed as vigilance officer in Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), Secunderabad.

He has worked in different capacities in RPF at railway stations as security incharge, in the Intelligence and Vigilance wings. He has also had a brief stint with the Central Bureau of Investigation in Hyderabad where he was a part of the team that probed high profile cases. He has previously been awarded the railway minister’s Medal for best investigation.
