KHAMMAM: Lakaram Tank, which is considered as the Tank Bund of Hyderabad, will have the National Flag hoisted from Independence Day. The people of Khammam can view the National Flag from their building tops as it will be erected at a height of 100-feet.

There are several specialties that went into designing the flag. Officials of the irrigation department ordered the pole from a company in Silvassa, Gujarat. Special care was taken while selecting the iron that was used for the pole.

Flags and Poles, Khammam came forward to design the National Flag at a cheaper price. They will make the flag at a cost of Rs 18,500. Agency organisers K. Srikanth, K. Gautham and B. Padmavathi have been making the National Flags for Buddhavanam in Hyderabad and organisations, including Gannavaram Airport and ONGC.

Though the National Flag was part of Lakaram Tank Development project, the erection was delayed as the concerned irrigation officials were busy with the strengthening the bund there.

The size of the National Flag to be hurled at Lakaram tank is 20x30 feet. The flag will be live throughout the year and it is expected that about 10 flags will be needed in a year. There is every chance of the flag getting torn due to gales and winds. A new flag will be replaced if any damage is found in the present one.

The irrigation department looked after the construction of the pole and left it to the Khammam Municipal Corporation which will monitor the flag 365 days.

District collector R.V. Karnan took special care of the National Flag erection works. Minister for animal husbandry and fisheries will hoist the flag on Thursday. Lakaram Tank has become a tourist attraction.

A good walking track will also be set up and the youth of Khammam have erected Mana Khammam as the selfie point. he National Flag is set to change the view of Lakaram Tank and more people are expected to take selfies at the National Flag site.
