No red alert today in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: Though there is no red alert for any districts of the state on Thursday, Kozhikode, Kannur and Malappuram have been placed under the orange alert category. A yellow alert has been declared for Kasargod and Wayanad districts on the day.
The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in Kozhikode, Kannur and Malappuram districts on Thursday. Strong winds from westerly direction speed reaching 45-55 kmph are likely along and off Kerala and Karnataka coasts and over Lakshadweep area.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas. Heavy (7-11 cm in 24 hours) to very heavy (12-20 cm in 24 hours) rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places on Thursday and heavy (7-11 cm in 24 hours) rain is very likely to occur at one or two places on Friday.
Southwest monsoon has been vigorous over Kerala. Rain occurred at most places in Laksh-adweep on Wednesday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall reports in cm are: Chalakudy 17, Peermade 15, Cherthala 13, Agathi (Lakshadwe-ep), Enamackel (Thriss-ur) 12 each and Kottay-am, Kozha and Vaikom , Kochi AP , Kodungallur and Vadakara (11 each, Kanjirappally, Piravom and Irinjalakuda 10 each, C.I.A.L. Kochi and Ernakulam South, Vel-lanikkara (Thrissur), Kurudamannil (Patha-namthitta) and Chenga-nnur 9 each, Punalur, Konni and Idukki 8 ea-ch and Alappuzha, Kay-amkulam & Mavel-ika-ra, Thodupuzha Thrith-ala (Palakkad) & Kudlu (Kasaragod) 7 each.
The other chief amou-nts of rainfall reports in cm are: Kozhikode, Qui-landy, Kannur, Manco-mpu (Alappuzha), Alu-va, Manjeri and Hosdu-rg (Kasaragod) 6 each, Karipur AP, Perinthal-manna and Ponnani, Kayamkulam, Vadakka-ncherry, Irikkur and Ta-liparamba 5 each, Ned-umangad , Aryankavu , Haripad , Myladumpara (Idukki ), Alathur and Pattambi, Angadippur-am and Nilambur and Mahe 4 each, Amini (Lakshadweep), Kollam, Kunnamkulam , Vythiri (Wayanad) 3 each, Thir-uvananthapuram City , Palakkad, Mannarkad , Perumbavur, Thalasse-ry 2 each and Thiruva-nanthapuram AP, Neyy-attinkara , Minicoy and Munnar and Kuppady 1 each.
