Mahalakshmi layout police seize endangered pangolin, arrest two
BENGALURU: Mahalakshmi Layout police have seized a Pangolin, an endangered species and arrested two persons in this connection.
According to police, those arrested have been identified as Munivenkatappa (45) and Gowtham (31). The accused were trying to sell the Pangolin and its scales near Kamalammanagundi Playgrounds.
According to sources, Pangolins are trafficked mainly for their scales, which are believed to be used to treat a variety of health conditions. The accused had packed one Pangolin alive and scales in separate gunny bags.
Pangolins are considered to be one of the most heavily trafficked wild mammals in the world. All species of Pangolin are classified as threatened with extinction, while two species are classified as critically endangered.
