HMDA to give 40,000 clay idols free of cost

HMDA has placed orders with the selected agencies to supply clay idols before August end.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Developmental Authority has decided to procure 40,000 clay Ganesh idols, eight inches high, to be distributed for free in more than 15 locations within the city.

The locations include the HMDA head office at Tarnaka, Lumbini Park, NTR Garden, BPP office, Saroornagar Priyadarshini Park, Narayanaguda Melkote Park, Rajiv Gandhi Vanasthalipuram Park, KBR Park, Sanjeevaiah Park, Swarnajayanthi Commercial Complex at Ameerpet and other places yet to be notified.

The clay idols will be bought from artisans, and agencies that have experience in manufacturing idols in large numbers and are willing to supply them for free. Officials said that HMDA had taken up various activities for protection of the lakes and water bodies in and around Hyderabad and more particularly Hussain Sagar Lake.

According to government instructions, unlike last year, the municipal authority has decided to distributed eco-friendly Ganesh idols to the public for free through the Resident Welfare Associations, NGOs, schools, HSL, clubs and also directly by HMDA at designated locations. HMDA has placed orders with the selected agencies to supply clay idols before August end.
